How PP Monofilament Fiber Control Plastic Shrinkage in Concrete
Plastic shrinkage cracks frequently occur on fresh concrete slabs when surface moisture evaporates faster than bleeding water rises, generating tensile stress before concrete gains strength. PP monofilament fiber serves as effective micro-reinforcement to solve this problem.
Made of virgin polypropylene, these fine monofilaments disperse evenly in the mix and build a 3D internal network. Individual filaments bridge incipient microcracks, redistribute tensile stress and prevent tiny fissures from expanding into visible plastic shrinkage cracks.
Tested per ASTM C1579, the typical dosage ranges from 0.6 kg/m³ to 1.2 kg/m³. It reduces cracking area, lessens bleeding and settlement defects, and improves concrete surface finish and durability.
Note that PP monofilament fiber is secondary anti-crack reinforcement and cannot replace structural steel rebar. It is widely adopted for industrial floors, pavements and shotcrete for early-age crack control.
